A typical day at Segovia begins about 3:00 p.m. every afternoon.  Employees arrive to begin a long process of “clearing” our automated answering system.  They will clear appx. 200-250 orders to be delivered the next morning.  The orders will be about 70% English and 30% Spanish.  This process will take about 10 hours and they are responsible for this 6 days a week.  They then break the orders into their “assigned” 1st routes listed by driver, i.e. Guadalupe Street area.  We will have 25 routes that we term 1st routes.

Joe E. Segovia (founding owner) arrives at about 8:00 p.m. and begins receiving incoming loads making sure they meet our “above industry standard” requirements.  He will remain active throughout the night and go home about 8:00 A.M.

The first driver will arrive at midnight, assist “Big Joe” and begin loading his truck.  Subsequently the other drivers arrive between 1:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.  All drivers are responsible for loading their own truck which allows them to hand select the product that is required to please each and every customer.

The first routes leave the docks as early as 4:00 a.m. and as late as 8:30 a.m.  They will not return until about 10:30 a.m. and will begin what we call our 2nd and 3rd routes of the day.  Upon arrival the driver must pull the product and reload his truck which takes about an hour to an hour and a half.

Any orders received after the first routes leave most likely will not be shipped out until the 2nd or 3rd routes have been identified.  In “emergency” circumstances where the customer cannot wait for their product we will hot shot the order by itself.

The drivers will now be dispatched out for a second time to return between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

By the end of the day we will make somewhere in the neighborhood of 400-450 deliveries.  It isn’t hard to figure out that about 50% of our orders are not placed until after 7:30 a.m. which can make it a very interesting non boring day.  One helpful hint to all is whenever possible please place your orders the night before by 1am and if not, a little forgiveness if we are running late.

Segovia Produce promotes a family atmosphere with our co-workers and customers thus insuring everyone’s needs are met.  Evidence of this is the amount of “PRIDE” displayed in the work product produced at Segovia Produce.

Our sales staff prides themselves in being available 24 hours a day.  No other company will make such a bold promise.  Someone is available at all times to answer any questions that may arise. Of course, these promises are only made to our “loyal” customers.

Our buyers have a combined “years of experience” of over 80 years.  We search all markets no matter what part of the world the search takes us to ensure the best quality product at the best prices.  We will not ever sacrifice the “Segovia” name by purchasing an inferior product.

The day is almost over, the only thing left is the period we use for maintenance: 3:00 p.m. to about 6:00 p.m.  Remember that catchy word I mentioned “PRIDE”? Well, the drivers perform all routine maintenance on their truck keeping our fleet in tip top condition and presentable.

Most of the guys you see every day, work an average of 10 to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.  Our team is very special and a unique set of individuals.  Not bad for a company just trying to distribute a few produce boxes. â€‹

“I have worked with Segovia for a while and produce is always great. I’d like to shout out Alfredo. He is someone I met almost ten years ago but has honestly been the best driver that I have ever worked with.” -24 Diner
